Subsidies and Quotas

With the introduction of the Single Payment Scheme and the fall in value of milk quota, agricultural subsidies have played a less significant role in agricultural disputes, but disputes still arise. An understanding of the schemes remain central to our practice area.

Examples include:

  • issues arising between farmers and DEFRA/National Assembly over the allocation and value of entitlements under the Single Payment Scheme
  • disputes between individuals over the allocation and value of entitlements
  • defending or bringing claims against professionals over the transfer or loss of entitlements and milk quota
  • the transfer or loss of entitlements and milk quota
  • disputed claims to compensation for milk quota under the Agriculture Act 1986
  • entitlement and milk quota leasing and sales (both disputes and transactions)

We provide standard wording and bespoke agreements in non contentious transactions (for example the treatment of Single Payment entitlements) and provide specialist advice to other professionals within the context of wider property transactions.
